
Rachel Keller is a fictionalized character in The Ring movie series. The character, created by writer-producer Ehren Kruger and portrayed by Naomi Watts, serves as the protagonist in The Ring and The Ring Two and shares a lot of similarities to Reiko Asakawa from the first Japanese films.Introduced in 2002's film, Rachel is an investigative journalist who has to find the best way to avoid death after having to watch an unlucky video tape she discovered while investigating the death of her niece. In The Ring Two, Rachel is forced to research the story of Samara Morgan, her son's mother, after he becomes sick with an unknown ailment.In The Ring, Rachel Keller, an investigative journalist, is asked by her sister Ruth to find out the mysterious circumstances behind her niece Katie's death. Rachel is told by her sister Ruth that she has discovered Katie's damaged body inside the closet. She also revealed that Katie died of a heart attack. Katie's close friends recount to Rachel the tale of the cursed videotape legend and Katie's friend Becca being confined for witnessing Katie lose her life. Katie's boyfriend and her two friends were killed in bizarre accidents that same night around 10 at night. Rachel travels to Shelter Mountain Inn to Cabin 12 where Katie and her friends viewed the tape that had been cursed. Rachel is able to locate the tape after which when the phone is ringing. Rachel hears a voice utter "seven days". Rachel calls Noah Clay, her ex-boyfriend and a video analyst to seek help. Rachel finds out later that Aidan (her son who is also with Noah) was watching the tape, and told her that he believed in her. Rachel investigates the tape to discover the exact location of the lighthouse. It was on Moesko Island. Anna Morgan is a cursed horse breeder appeared on the tape. Rachel found out that Anna was the mother of an adopted child named Samara who could cause disturbing images into the bodies and minds of people, animals, and even objects. Rachel must leave Anna's widower Richard when she starts asking questions regarding Samara.
