The league was launched in May of 2012. Garena launched its Garena Premier League (GPL), a six-month-long professional league for online gamers with over 100 matches scheduled being played. The GPL's first season includes six teams of professionals League of Legends players. Each team is comprised of some of the most talented players in their countries. In January of 2013, Garena declared that the Garena Premier League's second season was scheduled to begin on the 4th of January, 2013. Garena Premier League 2013 includes two teams that are new to Taiwan and Vietnam which brings the total amount of teams up to eight. AHQ, Saigon Fantastic Five, Bangkok Titans, Kuala Lumpur Hunters, Manila Eagles, Taipei Assassins, and Singapore Sentinels are the teams. The stadium opened in November of 2014. Garena E-Sports Stadium which was a dedicated venue for esports began operations at Neihu District, Taipei. The studio was built partially in order to host the League of Legends Masters Series that is the most elite Taiwan, Hong Kong, as well as the Macau LoL league which was a an offshoot of the GPL. Garena began in the Iron Solari League in January 2015. It is a League of Legends women's tournament that is held on the Philippines. It is a monthly event held in the second week of every month. This is a chance to increase participation from under-represented communities and is accessible to anyone who identifies as the same. Besides competitive tournaments, Garena also organizes events for users to meet and connect offline. It is the case with an annual Garena Carnival which takes place in Singapore and Malaysia.
