Catherine Ford was born Bloomsbury in London. After her father had left the family of Ford, they were looked after by her mom, grandmother as well as godparents. When she was a young girl Ford was afflicted with anxiety due to an obsessional-compulsive disorder. Ford started acting in her teen years and joined part of the National Youth Theatre. She was accepted into Sylvia Young Theatre School but after just one week she realized that she didn't fit in. Ford reapplied to Central School of Speech and Drama and, after her fourth application she was eventually admitted. Shaun Dingwall played Pete Tyler on Doctor Who. Ford received her degree in 1993. Before that, however, Ford made a television debut on Surgical Spirit in an episode in the year 1991. Ford took the professional name of Catherine Tate. During the Nineties, Tate could be seen on television in programmes like The Bill, Men Behaving Badly and London's Burning. Apart from her regular theatre work, Tate joined with the Royal Shakespeare Company in 2000-2001. Tate became famous for her stand-up comedies that were added to Tate's show in the year 1996.
